Nick and I used to work at Netscape from 1997 to 1999. After that he went up to Portland and I moved down to Los Angeles. We kept in touch weekly through instant messenger (I still have him in my Friends list).

During the whole process that he went through, we spoke over the phone and IMed. He was still kidding around and told me how his Blazers were going to kick Clippers butt. One of the few times he let on about how serious things were was when I told him I was going to visit him my wife and daughter in the fall -- he said "Dude, I won't be around by then."

It's weird though, I don't get sad about him being gone -- I feel that he is still here. I guess that's why this is my favorite picture of him. Sort of represents the way I think of where he is now -- he's a little bit far away so I can't speak to him, but I know he is nearby for me to know that he is happy and content.

I miss geeking out with him -- I miss his friendship -- I miss instant messaging him -- but I know I will see him again..
